weather safety
Rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and tropical storms are frequent during the warm months.
Rain, Thunderstorms, lightning
Scattered rain is common during the summer months. If you see rain in your vacation weather forecast, don't fret. Most of the time, the rain storm is short lasting.

Often times, we get thunderstorms and they come with a lot of lightning. Florida is the lightning capital of the US. Lightning can strike within 10 miles of the rain. According the FSU Emergency Management, follow these rules to reduce your chance of getting struck:

-
If they sky darkens or you hear thunder, get inside or to a safe place immediately.
-
Once inside, avoid contact with electrical equipment, plumbing, windows, bath/showers, and doors.
-
Wait 30 minutes after the last lightning or thunder before going back outdoors.
Hurricanes
Hurricane season is June 1 through November 30.
